Matthias Ballmann was raised in Wiesbaden, Germany. His father, Hans-Jürgen Ballmann, one of three brothers who are all actors, owns a theatre company. Matthias studied German, Theatre Sciences and English at the Johannes-Gutenberg-University in Mainz for a few semesters before moving on to become an actor.
