Mark Ross Edrys was born in New York in 1965. After moving to Richmond, Virginia, in 1979, he developed an interest in music, and played in the John Randolph Tucker High School marching band. Afterwards, he was in a number of local rock bands in Richmond, most notably the funk/punk trio "Just Because".
