Vinh Diep was born in the village of Tuy Hoa, Vietnam in the summer of 1978. Shortly after he was born, his family started the journey to their new home after the Northern Vietnamese Army had taken over all of Vietnam after the fall of 1975. It was the fall of 1978 when they parted Vietnam and journeyed with thousands of refugees to Hong Kong.
