Mark Kay grew up in Waterloo,Iowa. Waterloo, being the home of Dan Gable, it was a given that he was to be a wrestler. He started wrestling in the 4th grade in order to keep from being tortured by his older brothers. His wrestling skills lead him to be a ranked wrestler in the state of Iowa his senior year.
