Gerd Zimmermann studied his trade at the famed "University for Film -and Television, Konrad Wolf" in Potsdam-Babelsberg. Already Gerd`s only second Production - "Jakob the Liar" - at "Defa Studio for Feature Films", earned an Academy Award Nomination ( "Oscar" ) for "Best Foreign Feature".
