Josiah Lipscomb was born in Bluefield, West Virginia. At the age of two his family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, where he remained for 9 years. His family then moved to Knoxville, Tennessee for a year; Bosenheim, Germany for a year; followed by Dugger, Indiana for 3 years.
