Gioya Tuma-Waku was born in Kinshasa, DRC then moved to South Africa at the age two and was raised there. In 2015 she graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles and then was one of the 21 students invited back to perform as part of The Academy Company.
