Kathy Garneau was born in Surrey, Canada. She initially completed an engineering degree at the University of British Columbia in chemical engineering. After a brief stint in the engineering field, Kathy returned to UBC to complete a diploma in their film studies programme. She is best known for her documentary work in the mid-nineties.
