Rómulo Gallegos，Gallegos is not only famous as a writer of novels (the most famous of which is _Doña Barbara (1923)_, short stories and political articles. In 1947, after having been Minister of Education, he was elected President of Venezuela. In 1948, however, he was overthrown by a military coup, upon which he went into exile.
