Eugenio Carlos initiated his career on the Brazilian stage, sponsored by local arts patron Paschoal Carlos Magno, playing Shakespeare, Ibsen and other classics. In the early fifties, he left Brazil for Pasadena, Los Angeles, to study dramatic arts at the Pasadena Playhouse, under names such as Michael Chekhov.
