Leonard Smith was born in Fordwich, Kent in 1934 to his father Aurther Henry Smith and his mother Carrie Apps. He is a younger brother to Myrtle Todd (1930). At the young age of 9, he was walking to school one morning, eating an apple, when a camera man took his picture. He was then given the part of Leslie in the film 'A Canterbury Tale'.
