Merav Gruer was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe the daughter of entrepreneurs Shlomo and Pnina Gruer and has two younger brothers, Tahl and Ronn Gruer. Merav was offered the part of Jude Roth in "A World Apart" after auditioning for the role.
