A road trip through Libya during the last weeks of the revolution against Muammar al-Gaddafi’s regime. Libya Hurra documents a collective mood characterizing people in one particular place in a narrow time window. Without losing itself in facts and statements, the film outlines realities of life in long sequence takes shot during an armed revolution, which usually – even from a country in the focus of media reporting – remains completely hidden. At the end of Libya Hurra, the filmmaker stands in front of Gaddafi’s former palace. The revolution is over and the time window closed again. Fritz Ofner Freelance film director and cameraman, lives in Vienna. He was born in Styria in 1977 and studied Journalism and Ethnology in Vienna. After graduating he worked as an NGO activist, freelance journalist and TV producer. Extensive travel through Asia, Africa and Latin America eventually led him to documentary film. In 2011 he received the Axel Springer Award for his TV documentary, ‘From Baghdad to Dallas’. ‘The Evolution of Violence’ was his first documentary for theatrical release, which had its international premiere in Locarno. ‘Libya Hurra’ is his second feature length documentary.
