Life was good, once. Then nature changed its mind, and life was decimated. First the plants, then the animals, then the people. It happened not long after the boy's mother died, and today, so close to being a man, he has only traces of memory. Across a harsh and unforgiving landscape, he, his father, and a faithful canine trek towards a distant pocket of human settlement. They have only a ragged old map to guide them, and faint hope to fuel them. The merciless economics of survival in this ruined world demand painful decisions, they both understand this. But the place they seek - one that does not welcome strangers freely - will offer different challenges. Their reward might be the sanctuary they have sought for so long - or, it might be sudden and final.
