Is tradition the greatest honor or the greatest misfortune? They argue about this in the village of Pöhla. Regardless of the devastating health consequences, mining customs in the Ore Mountains are still alive 30 years after the fall of the Wall. With the closure of the last (uranium) mines in 1992, which irreversibly shaped the country and its people for 800 years, one was forced to build a new tourist identity. Especially in Advent, old tradition and economic interest come together in the “Christmas land” - whether it's baking stollen, singing together during the Mettenschicht in the mine or performing Christmas mass. In the area of tension between being declared a World Heritage Site and commissioning a pilot plant for the extraction of tin and tungsten, the film tells of this special time of the year above and below ground - and thus draws the psychogram of a region that will wrestle for its identity in 2019.
