'“The play''s the thing – but certainly not everything.” – Variety More than just a simple retelling of Dostoyevsky’s novel of the same name, and more than just the filming of a stage play, Czech filmmaker Petr Zelenka’s The Karamazovs weaves itself through multiple layers of text incorporating the novel, play, film and real life into one larger than life production. Following the Czech Dejvicke Theatre troupe as they prepare to perform the play in a run-down steel works in Poland, life begins to imitate art as the actors and their characters come closer together, strengthened by circumstance and tragedy.
