A debut film by one of the most important Polish documentary filmmakers. Due to the post war "reforms" Wincentowo, a small town in the Kielce region, becomes pacified by the new law banning private leather trade. Young people without families leave the town in search for better prospects. Those married with children are doomed to choose either vegetation on a poorly paid post or running private workshop encumbered by high taxes.
