Winner Best Short Documentary at 2005 Belize International Film Festival Winner Best Cultural Documentary at 2005 Caribbean Broadcast Union Awards 80 year-old Emilio Choco may be the last living practitioner of an ancient Mayan art form. Now he is preparing to make what may well be the last hammock of his life. At 80 years of age, Emilo Choco claims to be the last living practitioner of the ancient Maya art of hammock making in the tiny Central American nation of Belize. He reflects on his culture, and his craft, as he makes what may very well be the last hammock of his life. For Emilio Choco making a hammock means growing the plants, making the thread, and weaving lengths of string together. Now 80, he learned the craft as a boy in Guatemala. He migrated to Belize's remote Toledo District aged 19 and has been making hammocks ever since. With no apprentices for the art of hammock making, it seems that when Choco dies, so will this ancient Maya art.
