Koktebel, a resort in southeastern Crimea, -- “land of the blue hills” in Crimean Tatar -- is best known for its literary associations. A favourite vacation spot of writers before and after the Russian Revolution, it is where the Russian poet Maximilian Voloshin had his residence, where he entertained many distinguished guests, including Marina Tsvetayeva, Osip Mandelstam, and Andrey Bely (who died there). They all wrote memorable poems in Koktebel.
