The first color stereo film opera in the world. A screen version of Rachmaninov’s opera (based on A.S.Pushkin’s “The Gypsies”). The Gypsy campside. It is two years since the young Gypsy Zemphira brought a fair-haired tall young man called Aleko to her father’s marquee. Aleko left his town for the expanses of the steppes. For two years the young man has been travelling with the Gypsies enjoying the free and independent life. But Zemphira falls in love with a young Gypsy. Tormented by jealousy Aleko stabs Zemphira and her beloved. Rejected by the Gypsies, Aleko is left alone once again.
