Mohan attempts to secure a loan from his employer on the occasion of Diwali as well as his Munna, his son's birthday; is not only refused but also fired from his job. He returns home to find his house burning, manages to rescue his son, but succumbs to severe burn injuries. His devastated wife, Kaushalya, rendered homeless, is sexually molested by a wealthy male, and ends up killing him while defending her honor.
