A wounded teenager consults with Death to figure out the identity of a whimsical serial killer. With visuals from Vietnam and sound from the United States, the film is a chaptered recollection of strands of everyday stories with a surreal overtone. Shot entirely with a rotated camera, 'Arbitrary Fairytales' is also an absurdist puzzle designed to topple cinematic conventions, one vertical frame at a time.
