On 7 August 1935 an Italian aircraft S 81, left Rome and directed in Asmara, fell in flames near Cairo. In the accident, died Luigi Razza, Minister of Public Works and the explorer Raimondo Franchetti. The causes of the disaster were never clarified, but on the national and foreign press was talk of sabotage, saying the goal was to kill the Baron Franchetti. Franchetti became famous for the expedition organized in Danakil, a lavish event and unmatched.
