Ustad Hotel (Malayalam: ഉസ്താദ് ഹോട്ടല്) is a 2012 Indian drama film written by Anjali Menon and directed by Anwar Rasheed. The film stars Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role while Thilakan, Siddique, Nithya Menen, Mamukkoya and Lena Abhilash play supporting roles. Asif Ali and Jishnu appear in cameo roles in the film which is produced by Listin Stephen under the banner of Magic Frames and is distributed by Central Pictures.Ustad Hotel was one of the last films featuring Thilakan who died months after the release of the film. The film deals with the life of young Faizal (known as Feyzee) who studies a chef's course in Switzerland against his rich father's wishes. As the relation between father and son breaks, Feyzee is forced to work as a cook in a restaurant run by his grandfather Karim at Kozhikode (Calicut). A strong bond develops between Karim, an old Sufi Muslim, and his educated grandson who eventually decides to work permanently in the restaurant. The film also throws light to the world of underprivileged people struggling to quench their hunger and the rich trying to eat up the poor and the marginalised. Food with its myriad nuances in effect becomes a central character in the film. Ustad Hotel received positive reviews, and was placed at the #1 position in the list of "Top 10 Malayalam films of 2012" compiled by Oneindia.in. It is considered a box office blockbuster, grossing around 8 crore (US$1.46 million) in the first four weeks of release.
