"Die singende Stadt" was Brigitte Helm's first talkie. It also features the famous polish tenor Jan Kiepura. At that time he was the main attraction because of his beautiful voice. He was admired as the new "Caruso". Brigitte Helm however was just the decorative accessory. However, it get noticed, that she is able to do also talkies. But her cool and a bit mysterious style was more suitable for silents. In her talkies much of this style gets lost, she seems to be a more ususal girl. The film has some nice scenes, as feeding the cliches of the typical german tourist and the typical smart italian style to handle those tourists.
