This eccentrically satirical film essay is an ode to the glories of life on Greece’s isolated and ruggedly beautiful Mani peninsula. Filmmaker Alevras throws down the gauntlet to Europe, demonstrating--with tongue in cheek and a few solo musical numbers--the superiority of Greek philosophy. Mouth-watering displays of regional food are a recurring theme in his visual musings on eroticism, family, and history, rendered with snide asides, bristling wit, and a dash of nudity.
